Proud of Our Roots in the Heart of Tekov
We are proud that our company is part of this historically significant region, and that our production is located directly in Levice, in the current heart and center of life in the Tekov region.
The territory of the Tekov region begins in the vast fertile lowlands in the south of western Slovakia and ends at the foothills of the Štiavnica Mountains, amidst numerous vineyards that give this region its distinctive character. The Hron River flows through the Tekov region, largely shaping its character.
The Tekov region is also known as “čilejkársky” or “čilejkárskym” because in some areas of the region, a specific soft Central Slovak dialect is spoken, where the words “čil”, “čilej”, “čileky” are often used instead of “teraz” (now).
Land of Rich Traditions and Fertile Soil
What makes this region known and unique? The Tekov region is primarily known for its traditional culture and unique traditions, which still hold their place in most “čilejkársky” villages today. In the past, the inhabitants were predominantly farmers who utilized the excellent natural conditions in the Hron Uplands and on the floodplains of the Hron and Žitava rivers for agriculture.
Even in those times, farmers predominantly cultivated, and still cultivate in this area today, mainly wheat, barley, rye, oats, potatoes, corn, and sugar beet. In addition to agriculture, viticulture was also widespread in the Tekov region, holding a significant position particularly between the city of Levice and the village of Hronský Beňadik, where an important wine-growing area existed and still exists today.
